Whales English

Whales English is an online teaching school based in China. It is designed for English learners between the ages of 3 to 18 with a registered student population of over 60,000 and still expanding. We have an average of 2 students in a class, and approximately 10,000+ different classes with more than 2,000 native English-speaking teachers.

In 2012, a group of parents met in an online forum to share their struggle to find decent English education for their children. In their minds, the domestic school system was failing to introduce fluency and the important native touch of the language. A Dad explains: "My daughter Dangdang was born, I made up my mind not to let her take such a detour. Before the age of 12 is the most sensitive period to learn.” Soon many parents volunteered to connect with American teachers and formed Sprout, a non-profit organization for ESL providing American curriculums.

This “parents volunteer service group” delivered the best customer service in China for online classes. “We were the parents ourselves, so we knew what we needed to provide for other parents” one member recalled. In order for the U.S. elementary schools and Chinese courses to seamlessly connect, the team followed thousands of online courses, made a detailed note of their children’s learning difficulties, summarized their findings and assisted Sprout to improve and upgrade the courseware.

This model was so successful that quickly thousands of children were receiving a native quality, individualized curriculum, taught by over 300 teachers. Soon, Sprout expanded its offers to courses such as English reading, science, social science, writing and many more and changed its name to Whales English. Today, Whales English is expanding its unique model all across China, the US, Canada, and the UK and turned a non-profit to full corporate operation in 2017. In July 2020 the company celebrated its 8 year anniversary.

Whales English, (also known as Rouchi or Sprout due to their company entity), is an online teaching company based in China.
