ESOL Instructor

Private, not-for-profit English school in Chiapas Mexico requires ESOL instructor immediately.

Applicants should possess the following qualifications:
•professional – responsible, honest, committed
•creative, team-player, culturally sensitive
•minimum 1 year classroom experience abroad
•education to first degree and recognized ESOL teaching qualification
•native English speaker

At present, all of our classes are at the school. Student’s ages 6-60. Maximum 20 students per class. We offer all levels of basic English language learning – Elementary to Advanced as well as FCE Preparation, Business English and teacher training programs. We follow the standards set out by the University of Cambridge. We are recognized by the Ministry of Education in Mexico.

2 full semesters – Aug to Dec / Jan to Jun, and upon demand one intensive semester Jul/Aug. Students complete 1 level each semester. Class schedules are set to meet the needs of our students; presently Mon-Thu 4:00-8:30pm, Sat 9am-2pm. Weekday classes are 90 min for adult and junior levels, 60 min for Kids. Saturdays are 5 hr intensive. Special activities, students’ and teacher development workshops are held Fri 5-7pm as required. Fridays are also when teachers meet formally to go over class progress, concerns and questions.

Teachers will have a minimum of 15 teaching hours per week and a maximum of 25 teaching hours per week. We commit to paying an hourly rate of $60 Mexican pesos per hour. The school doesn’t pay preparation time since we understand that any committed teacher will see preparation as inherent to quality teaching.

Subject to satisfactory results in the assessment process and completion of one year of service teachers receive/are reimbursed: full employment taxes, two weeks paid holidays during Easter, a Christmas benefit (up to one month salary), paid Christmas break, cost of work permit and a set amount to help the teacher cover the first month accommodation expenses. Depending on qualifications and length of service the school will also pay medical insurance. All other personal expenses are your responsibility. The school provides text books, one set of all the materials and stationery needed for the semester, high-speed internet and access to our resource and media room.

To be able to work legally in Mexico, all non-Mexicans are required to have a proper work permit. We can help teachers organize their work permit upon their arrival but teachers will need to pay for it in the beginning.

One semester contracts are renewed under mutual agreement.
