Lingua Franca Institute is seeking native English speakers to conduct conversation classes with university students. Lingua Franca was established four years ago and has quickly become one of the most successful and recognizable institutes in Aleppo, Syria. The institute is located near University of Aleppo in the upscale Furkan district and is within easy walking distance of many shops and restaurants.

Courses and employment begin on October 15th, 2008. Class sizes are small (5-8 students per class) and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed to allow for interesting conversation and student participation. Expect to teach around nine classes each week that are 90 minutes long. The amount you teach depends on your interests and there is definitely opportunity to teach more classes. Teachers are free during the weekends to travel around Syria and enjoy the country’s amazing sights.

Teachers should be native English speakers and teaching experience is a plus, but not a requirement. University graduates are preferred.

Teachers are provided with free accommodation at the institute including bathroom and kitchen facilities, satellite TV, and (slow) internet. Minimum compensation is $10 for each class totaling $90 per week –plenty of money to live very comfortably in Syria. Lingua Franca will assist you in obtaining/extending your Syrian visa.

Syria is a fantastic country with amazing history, landscapes, culture, food, and traditions. It is the cradle of civilization and has been called one of the most hospitable countries in the world. Aleppo is a perfect place to learn Arabic or perfect your language skills. Arabic lessons are available at a very low cost. This is a great opportunity to learn about a different culture, make new friends, and learn Arabic.
