English Teacher/Community Liaison Job Description
Responsibilities:
Given Costa Rica Rainforest Outward Bound's mission and philosophy (http://www.crrobs.org/about/philosophy/ http://www.crrobs.org/about/philosophy/) , the position has two goals:
• Design and deliver English lessons to elementary school students (about 8 students ranging in age from 6 - 12) as well as adults, keeping in mind the wide range of experiential education opportunities available in the rural community context.
• Foster, help design and implement community service projects that are relevant, beneficial to, and approved by the community that are appropriate and rewarding for CRROBS students.

People Interested in filling this position must:
1. Be willing to live for one year immersed in the basic living conditions of rural and remote Costa Rica. You would be living with local Costa Rican families in a tiny village in the middle of the rainforest which is two hours by horse (or about 5 hours hiking) from the nearest road. It is important that you are physically capable and willing to hike in hilly areas from one house to the next, and also to hike out to Brujo when necessary.
2. Have BA/BS with a focus in English, Teaching , Anthropology or related field
3. Be fluent in Spanish
4. Have lots of initiative and creativity
5. Be able to deal with cultural isolation as well as be able to adapt to as well as relate to Costa Rican campesino culture and lifestyle
6. Be organized and self-driven
7. Be flexible and culturally sensitive
8. Have solid interpersonal skills including good communication
9. Be ready to start ASAP
10. Be able to commit to a 3 month trial period and, if all goes well, a one year month contract with the community
English Teacher will receive:
• Room and board (as provided by community members)
• Coverage of essential costs of living in Costa Rica through a monthly stipend of $200
• Organizational support and cost coverage for the immigration process
• An initial briefing and ongoing support through monthly check-ins
• Basic medical insurance
• Financial support to acquire teaching aids
• Room and Board when visiting our base in San Ramon de Tres Rios
