Clients: a combination of small groups 4-5 people, lots of single classes and crashcourses and external clients in companies in the area.

Conditions:
Full contract under German law - with full medical cover, pension contributions, unemployment cover etc..
Pforzheim school - 25 hours (á 60 minutes) guaranteed by contract per week teaching.
Salary: Euro 1100,00 NET per month for the 25 hours per week. Overtime is paid extra at the end of the month at the same rate. Please note - that an extra ca. 40% (paid by the school) goes towards those benefits - i.e. medical, pension, unemployment insurance etc... so that the Gross pay is considerably higher than the NET.
25 days of paid holidays per year (2 weeks of which are to be taken at christmas (only time when the schools close in the year) plus all the usual paid public holidays (about 11 per year in germany).
Contract conditions: 6 months trial period - followed by an open contract that finishes with your 60th birthday. Within that period the contract can be cancelled by either side with a 2 month notice period.

In Pforzheim teachers also get a company car (fully paid for by the school) (most classes outside the schools in companies like DaimlerChrysler, telekom etc..)

Teaching method: Most classes have a course book but teachers are encouraged to tailor their own program to the students needs - i.e. no rigid program. Lots of materials for roles plays, grammar games, discussion topics etc. are available and teacher copy lots of extra material for the students.
A sound knowledge of English grammar is essential - teachers who cannot explain grammar in germany will have a hard time keeping their credibility with students. For those who don't have this we do organise training times with you before you go into classes.
Student levels: Most germans have had 3-4 years of english at school - so they usually have the basics. Typically they need work on fixing past simple, present simple, present perfect etc.. About 70% of the classes are at this level. The rest are beginners or more advanced students.

Cost of living in Germany: the schools are not in expensive areas of Germany. A teacher typically has the following costs per month:
1. Housing - Euro 275 - 350 per month - some teachers have costs under this - this will get you an apartment of ca. 40 - 50 m2.
2. Food & Basics: Euro 400 per month - this is on the high side.
Which leaves a teacher with at least Euro 400 per month for other spending needs - if any.

Visas: There is a common myth that only Europeans can work in germany. This is not true. If a non-european has a job offer (contract basis) then they are allowed to work when they arrive. The local unemployment office has 6 weeks to find a european who could also do this job (but in the last 10 years they never have).
We currently have over 20 teachers from north america - all on contract basis and all with work permits etc..

Qualifications for teachers:
The following is necessary:
1. A drving licence (this needs to be converted to a german one 6 months after starting here - a process that is easy or complicated depending on where your licence was issued)
2. Native English speaker (sounds natural but we often get applications from non native speakers - sorry, we make no exceptions)

The following is preferrable:
1. A TEFL
2. Degree level other qualification
3. Teaching experience
4. Knowledge of English grammar and an ability to explain it.
5. A small knowledge of german makes life easier here.

We are really only interested in teachers who are interested in staying for at least 1 year - preferrably longer.

Schools:
Koblenz - about 25 full time staff and many part time people.
Ettlingen (near Karlsruhe): about 15 full time staff plus part timers.
Pforzheim: about 8 full time staff. - these 2 schools operate very closely together - as they are about 35km apart.
