ABOUT THE SCHOOL
DRH South Zealand is situated in a village on the island of Zealand,
Denmark. Our school is a relatively big and still has a very cosy
atmosphere. We have the capacity to have 50 students in our
school at one time. Additional to the Development Instructor
programme we have two social programmes at the school.
THE IDEA
The Development Instructor Programme is a unique chance for people to dedicate 14
months of their life to a practical contribution to the fight against poverty and diseases in
the most unfortunate areas of the world. DRH South Zealand works together HUMANA
People to People who run approximately 200 development projects in Africa,
India and China reaching a total of approximately 5 million people.
Development Instructors are all sorts of people who have
a lot in common. They all have big hearts and a willingness
to do something about the most basic contradiction
in today’s world: the extreme poverty in which far too
many people live.
Anyone can become a Development Instructor as long as
you are prepared to commit yourself to the programme.
Everyone has a contribution to make.
THE PROGRAMME
The program has the following structure:
6 months education and action at DRH South Zealand
6 months voluntary work at a project in Africa
2 months evaluation and information work – Camp Future.
The 6 months training programme is an unusual and exciting education designed to
take the challenges of the project period. Courses and language studies are combined
with experience based learning and team building activities. You learn to be the driving
force in your own training – just as you must be the driving force while working in
solidarity with your colleagues in Africa during the project period. Within the first 2
months your team will receive job descriptions from Humana People to People and you
will decide who will go to which project.
Then you are off to the project for 6 months, this is what it is all about. In spite of your
training and the specific preparation you have made, you have big challenges ahead of
you.
The 2 months Camp Future is a period where you evaluate, inform and tell what you
have done and the changes that have happened to you. During this time the DIs give
information about the programme and encourage more people to join. This is also the
time where you decide on your own future perspective in terms of career making and plan the future.
